Description: ELP I is comprised of workshops focused on leadership development, college preparation, and community involvement for Latino and other immigrant youth (grades 9 through 12). Mentors are young professionals who provide Leaders with valuable guidance and advice in areas such as public speaking, goal setting, and career planning. Each mentor is responsible for a group of 3-6 Leaders.  Each mentor/Leader group is called a “Crew.”

Mentors must be highly reliable; they will report to the ELP Facilitators and are responsible for keeping in touch with their Crew throughout the week while the program is in session. Throughout the program, mentors will join Leaders in a university visit, assist them as they apply for the program’s scholarship, advise them as they develop an action plan to solve any obstacle to their personal success and serve as role models to our youth.

Panelists share their stories and career path with the entire group and respond to questions that the students might have. For the second half, students are divided into small groups and the panelists separate. The student groups rotate among the individual panelists so that each student gets a chance to speak with each panelist on a more personal level.
