In order to fulfill its mission, Edu-Futuro also offers a number of educational enrichment opportunities for children from 4 years of age through middle school that support their academic, language and socio-cultural development to keep them on the path to graduation. In particular, learning opportunities include:
Escuela Bolivia Spanish Saturday School.
Edu-futuro’s original program, Escuela Bolivia is a well-established academic enrichment program focused on Spanish Language and culture. It enrolls children from Pre-K to grade 6. It extends and enriches the Arlington Public Schools curriculum offered in the FLES program, which teaches Spanish language and culture. It is offered on Saturday mornings during the Fall and Spring semesters. Arlington Public Schools supports the program by providing the classroom space needed in one of its Spanish immersion elementary schools. In 2013- 14, Escuela Bolivia Saturday School served 221 students from Arlington and other localities in Northern Virginia.
The Program was begun by Bolivian parents in 1999 to support their children’s academic achievement. In recent years Escuela Bolivia has attracted a growing number of native English speakers, who in 2014 constituted 50% of the student population. This shift in demographics has called for the need to revamp the curriculum, in order to provide for instructional differentiation for native and non-native Spanish speakers, and promote greater cross–cultural awareness.
