SERVE WITH AMERICORPS AND IMPACT THE LIVES OF IMMIGRANT FAMILIES IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA! Applications are now being accepted for the Emerging Leader Program (ELP) Parent Support Facilitator. This position will provide assistance to Edu-Futuro’s Workforce Development Specialist (WDS) and Parent Support Specialist (PSS) who work directly with the parents of the students who participate in the 3-part Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) and support the ELP I and II programs. ELP I is a multi-workshop program for high school students (primarily low income, minority, immigrants) that helps them develop the academic, professional and leadership skills needed for post-high school life. ELP II is year-long mentorship for high school seniors in which they receive one-on-one guidance throughout the college application, financial aid and scholarship process.  It also prepares them for a smooth transition from high school to college. 
Core Responsibilities: Under the supervision of Edu-Futuro’s Youth Programs Coordinator and in collaboration with the Workforce Development Specialist, provide employment readiness services and referrals to other resources to parents of ELP students as follows: 

• Plan and conduct needs assessments for parents of ELP I and II (College Preparation) and to determine their employment readiness needs.

• Communicate with parents to understand their employment interests and goals, and their own assessment of their job readiness and occupational skills.

• Assist Parent Support Specialist in planning and preparing for elementary and middle school parenting classes, family strengthening, and family reunification classes.

• Assist with individual client support as needed to parents; i.e. English tutoring, resumé and computer skills  

• Identify career options and training opportunities for the ELP parents.

• Identify employment opportunities related to the interests and capabilities of program participants.

• Identify educational opportunities in the community that will benefit program participants.

• Assist the WDS in the delivery of workforce development workshops based on the needs of program participants.

• Work with the WDS in the implementation of evaluation instruments to assess programmatic outcomes and collect data from individuals served.

• Collaborate with the WDS to identify and recruit parent volunteers to provide guidance, and coaching and, when applicable, mentoring to other parents based on their social and employment needs.

• Help with the collection of stories, examples, and scenarios that illustrate the success of our work.

• Maintain and report accurate participant and volunteer data (attendance, progress, completion), and keep track of program’s expenses for meals and supplies. 
• Work one-on-one with ELP II high school seniors (ELP I graduates) to coach them through the college and scholarship application process on a weekly basis, during the whole academic year.

• Assist in the search for internships for ELP II students.

• Support the efforts of other ELP facilitators and the overall functioning of ELP programs.

• Organize with the ELP team youth events, such as community service, field trips, college visits, and graduation ceremonies. 

AmeriCorps General Responsibilities
This AmeriCorps program called Moving Forward! is a partnership between CASA de Virginia (CASA), and Edu-Futuro, established to deliver comprehensive services of citizenship support, financial literacy education, connection to health/social services, and youth leadership development in Northern Virginia. 
Members work together on planning community service and other events and participate in regular team activities (meetings, training, reporting, and evaluation activities). They are also responsible for promoting AmeriCorps throughout their service.  

• Available full-time (1700 hours; approx. 36 hours/week) from on or about September 4, 2018 to on or about August 31, 2019.

• Must be able to serve 2-4 evenings/week and Saturdays during the delivery of the Emerging Leader Programs.

• U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

• Bachelor’s degree.

• Passionate about teaching/mentoring as well as serving the immigrant community.

• Excellent English & interpersonal skills.

• Foreign language proficiency a plus.

• Access to a car required. Service activities are conducted throughout Arlington and Fairfax counties.
